What We're Doing

The Colorado Alcohol Impacts Coalition (CAIC) was established to address one of Colorado’s most urgent — and often overlooked — public health challenges: the impact of alcohol on individuals, families, and communities across the state.

Alcohol remains the leading cause of substance-related death and disability in Colorado, surpassing opioids, yet awareness of its widespread health, social, and economic impacts remains limited. Over the past decade, alcohol-related deaths in Colorado have doubled, and the state’s alcohol-related death rate is now estimated to be twice the national average. The effects are felt across healthcare systems, workplaces, schools, public safety systems, and communities statewide.

Officially launched in October 2025 and facilitated by the Steadman Group, CAIC works to advance data-informed, evidence-based strategies that reduce alcohol-related harm and strengthen community wellbeing across Colorado.

Through public education, community engagement, policy advocacy, and research-informed initiatives, the coalition supports efforts to increase prevention resources, expand access to treatment and recovery services, and promote policies that improve health outcomes for all Coloradans.

CAIC is grounded in the belief that lasting change happens through collaboration, shared knowledge, and sustained investment in Colorado communities.
