Coalition Structure

Workgroups

Collaborative action across prevention, policy, and community leadership.

Community Education & Engagement

The Community Education & Engagement Workgroup unites public health professionals, treatment providers, advocates, community organizations, and individuals with lived expertise to build awareness of alcohol's impact in Colorado.

The workgroup's core strategy is to deliver unified, evidence-based messaging that centers the voices of those with lived experience for policymakers, funders, and the public to drive systemic change, alongside community-level awareness.

Current work centers on building outreach through media campaigns, community forums, and statewide partnerships to shift public understanding and challenge entrenched cultural norms around alcohol use.

Research, Data and Evaluation

The Data group has the goal of providing local data (state, region, county) on the impacts of alcohol consumption in Colorado. Our group seeks to find local data on a broad range of possible impacts of alcohol – health, healthcare costs, economic, and public safety. We are particularly interested in data on key population subgroups: women and girls, youth, rural residents.

Policy and Advocacy Work Group

The Policy & Advocacy Work Group is focused on identifying and discussing local and state policies that limit access to alcohol or attempt to increase access, policies that support tax modernization or attempt to lower current alcohol taxes, and policies that promotes the reinvestment of alcohol tax revenues into alcohol use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery or attempt to block or reduce such reinvestment.

The Policy and Advocacy Work Group monitors local and state government alcohol-related policies and through review and discussion the Work Group identifies the pros and cons of those policies and develops common messages provided to CIAC as well as recommendations for advocacy actions.

Based on the priorities of the CAIC, and in coordination with the other CIAC work groups, the Policy & Advocacy Work Group also works on the development of local and state alcohol policy reforms for the CAIC to actively promote and support and to engage community members and advocates in favor of the policy reforms.
